Freelance Game Designer
Montreal, Canada Area | Computer Games

I'm a highly imaginative and technically-minded designer with 6+ years of game development experience at all levels from basement indie to AAA, a background in scripting and technology, strong trouble-shooting skills and professional experience in writing and graphic design.

Currently working on independent projects & freelance contracting, and always interested in hearing about exciting temporary and full-time opportunities.

Specialties: Multiplayer gameplay, encounter & level design, AI design, narrative gameplay & scripting.

Game Designer (2013 - Present)
At Large

Indie development and game design contracting with clients ranging from large studios to small start-ups. Clients have included: Behaviour Interactive, Funcom Canada, Decode Global, and the National Film Board of Canada.

Game Designer (2013 - 2013)

Worked with the amazing Hololabs team on Papercade, a gorgeous, joyful CMF-supported social game-creation app for making and sharing diorama-inspired pop-up games with your friends.

I helped the team take their original pitch and prototype and turn it into a developed design, taking into account onboarding, retention, monetization and user experience.

Senior Designer (2012 - 2013)

Senior Designer working on the pre-production of an unannounced persistent online game for a major, well-known license.

• Worked with the Lead Designer and Producer to establish the design vision and create documentation.
• Designed economic, crafting and social & community systems.
• Contributed to combat designs and AI prototyping.

Gameplay Designer (2008 - 2012)

As a member of the multiplayer dungeons team on The Secret World, I worked on group-focused content. I designed, scripted and implemented dungeon and raid encounters, as well as did dungeon level design and designed general multiplayer features.

I was directly responsible for the narrative, encounter and level design for two dungeons, Hell Fallen and The Facility, and the game's first raid, the Manhattan Exclusion Zone. I was involved in reviewing and iterating on the designs and mechanics of all dungeons in the game.

I also worked on the game's core combat AI for group encounters, and maintained key elements of the team's scripting infrastructure.

Media Consultant (2007 - 2008)

I did everything as the owner/designer of a small design & technology consultancy firm, sourcing new clients, managing outsourced resources for larger projects, and handling both print and online design projects personally. I consulted on brand image, social marketing, viral marketing and web presence.

Project Manager (Art Design & Marketing) (2006 - 2007)
Merchant Ambassador (Holdings) Ltd

I handled Product Design and Art Direction for a toys-and-games sourcing and product development company based in Hong Kong. My responsibilities included designing package and marketing material for products being sold in major international retailers like Carrefour, Tesco and Toys R Us.

Web Developer (2005 - 2006)

I maintained and extended a bespoke CMS system (PHP+MySQL) and the surrounding suite of system administration scripts and utilities.

Unix System Administrator (2004 - 2005)

I worked in a team to manage a large, globally distributed network of webservers hosting subsites of the OneWorld network, a news syndication service for NGOs and developing nations.
